Montenegro Excursion from Dubrovnik
Locally known as Crna Gora (literally “black highlands”), this country is known for its forested hills that reach all the way to its pristine sea. From the Illyrian and Roman tribes who originally inhabited Montenegro to its unique role in the Yugoslav war, you will learn two and a half thousand years of heritage and visit some of the most beautiful coastal towns on the Adriatic. After brief stops in Igalo and Herceg Novi we will continue south to Perast, in the Bay of Kotor. You will learn how the geography of this bay has influenced Montenegro's political and economic history as we take a boat ride to a small island called Our Lady of the Rocks (“Škrpjela”). Your guide will lead a walking tour through Kotor old town brimming with history and culture. Like Kotor, Budva's old town dates back to ancient times, but today the area is most known for its luxury hotels, beautiful beaches and great nightlife. On the return voyage we will take a ferry across Kotor Bay. We are leaving Dubrovnik in early morning hours and drive one hour south towards Prevlaka peninsula where we cross the border. During scenic drive along the bay of Kotor we will have short break in Perast where we take a boat drive on Island Our Lady of the Rock and visit museum. Upon arrival in Kotor you will have an hour guided walk through the old town and half hour more of free time before we continue towards St. Stefan. After 30min drive from Kotor we stop at view point above St. Stefan for photo shooting and then heading back to Budva for a walk. Time for lunch is planned in Budva after walking tour. Leaving Budva we will take ferry boat across the Kotor bay on our way back to Dubrovnik.
